Robin Thicke VS Marvin Gaye Estate: Who Will Win This War?

Marvin Gaye‘s son, Marvin Gaye III, is not relenting in his effort to make singer Robin Thicke pay for violating his father’s [Marvin Gaye] copyrights. He has allegedly confirmed plans to respond with a legal action of his own to Thicke’s lawsuit against the Gaye estate over Blurred Lines [Thickes’ hit single], according to TMZ.
If you happen to be lost, here is an update. Couple of days ago, Robin Thicke filed a lawsuit against the Gaye estate, asking a judge to head off any legal action from the Gayes [who had allegedly accused him of stealing Marvin's songs] by ruling “Blurred Lines” does NOT violate Marvin’s copyrights. There are obvious similarities between Thicke‘s summer hit, Blurred Lines and Marvin Gaye‘s Got To Give It Up as well as Thicke‘s Million Dollar Baby and Marvin’s Trouble Man and so on.
“We are fans of Thicke like he is to my father. the only problem is, if you take his work and turn into your own, the least you could do is give credit where its due. Don’t disrespect the old’s long hard years of work and then put his family into distress. For me, that’s gross disrespect!” Marvin III disclosed to TMZ.
There’s no doubt whatsoever that Marvin Gaye III is ‘not a happy man’ and basically saying Thicke has disrespected the Gaye family by shamelessly lifting his father’s famous tunes for the hit song (plus many other Thicke tracks). He added that Thicke’s lawsuit is a total ‘slap in the face’.
Although Marvin III hedged when asked flat out if he plans to sue Thicke for copyright infringement, there are speculations that the option is very possible. This may perhaps become one of the biggest copyright infringement  cases in entertainment. With the look of things, Thicke‘s move is possibly to protect himself from being sued heavily by the Gayes [by filing a preemptive lawsuit against the same people you have openly insulted]. The Gayes also look ready to drag him to court for theft!
Secondly this may stare up racist crisis by the end of it. Given the fact that Marvin Gaye remains one of the biggest and most successful black entertainers in the world[even after death] and for a ‘white artist’ to disrespect him like the way he is doing, the black community may not take this lightly.
